Claude Sudbeck

Claude J. Sudbeck, age 68, of Hartington, died on Thursday, November 6, 2008 at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton, SD. after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, November 10, 2008 at 10:30 am at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Hartington with Rev. Jeffery Loseke officiating. Burial will be at St. Michael's Cemetery in Hartington with military honors provided by the Hartington VFW Post 5283. Visitation will be on Sunday from 4:00pm to 8:00pm with a rosary at 4:30 pm and a vigil service at 7:00 pm at the church under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home in Hartington.

Pallbearers will be Matt Sudbeck, Roger Sudbeck, Darrell Uhing, Melvin Sudbeck, Tom Sedlacek Jr., Jerad Haberman, Jim Kostel, and Shannon Herrboldt. Honorary pallbearers will be the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus.

Claude was born on March 27, 1940 at Bow Valley to Arthur and Rose (Burbach) Sudbeck. He grew up in the Bow Valley area and graduated from Holy Trinity High School in 1958. He graduated from Aeronautics School in Kansas City in 1960. He served in the U. S. Army from 1963 to 1965, stationed in Germany. Claude married Karen Haberman on April 24, 1965 in Menominee, NE. He received his real estate license in 1967 and was an active real estate broker until his death. Claude and Karen also owned and operated the Hillcrest Motel since 1985 with locations in Plainview and Hartington.

Claude was a member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, and the Hartington Chamber of Commerce. He was a very kind, generous and loving man. He accepted his illness with dignity. His family was the center of his life.

Claude is survived by his wife, Karen, of Hartington, 3 daughters and their spouses; Cheryl and Rick Pesek of Omaha, Jodi and Tim Potts of Omaha, Kari and Rick Pruett of Sioux City, Iowa, 8 grandchildren; Ricky, Olivia, and Nathan Pesek, Jacob, Caden, and Morgan Potts, Elen and Reid Pruett, 3 sisters; Dolores Ann and Merlin Hochstein of Wynot, Mary Jean and Jerry Uhing of Omaha, Sharon and Jerry Schmidt of Ft. Collins, CO, 5 brothers; Don and Gloria Sudbeck of Omaha, Clair and Deanna Sudbeck of Yankton, Lloyd and Janice Sudbeck of Bow Valley, Dave Sudbeck of Hartington, Kevin and Jaci Sudbeck of Hartington, and a sister in law, JeAnn Sudbeck of Omaha.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Henry Sudbeck.
