Rev. Charles "Chuck" Robert Pinkerton Jr., age 49, of Yankton, South Dakota died Wednesday, January 28, 2009.

A Celebration of Life Service is 9:30 AM, Monday, February 2, 2009 at the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home in Yankton with Reverend Vince Smith officiating. Visitation with public viewing is from 5:00 to 8:00 PM, on Sunday, at the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home with a video tribute and time of sharing at 7:00 PM.

Chuck was born on August 22, 1959 at Kingsley Air Force Base in Hamilton, Bermuda to Rev. Charles Sr. and Carma (Overstreet) Pinkerton. He graduated from Trenton High School in Trenton, Florida where he lettered in 4 sports: basketball, football, track and wrestling. Chuck entered the United States Army and received the General Creighton W. Abrams Award for outstanding recruit for his basic training class. Chuck went on to his field of finance and accounting at Ft. Eustis, Virginia and then in Aschaffenburg, Germany, where he met his wife of 26 1/2 years, Melanie Myklebost Pinkerton. In 1981, he was transferred to Ft. McClellan, Alabama. There his two daughters were born, Charlene in 1981 and Erika in 1983. At Ft. McClellan, Chuck received Soldier of the Month on several occasions. In 1985, he was transferred back to Frankfort, Germany and his family stayed behind. It was then that his son, Stephen was born. After his exit from the military in 1986, Chuck and his family returned to their home in Jacksonville, Florida. There he came to know the Lord and accept his call into full-time Christian service. Following his call, he went to Florida Baptist Theological College. He graduated with honors receiving his Bachelors of Theology. Later he received his Masters of Theology from Anderson Baptist Seminary. Chuck would go on to pastor First Baptist Church in St. George Island, FL, Ferris Hill Baptist Church in Milton, FL, New Horizons Christian Fellowship in Milton, FL and finally Yankton Baptist Church in Yankton. Chuck will always be thought of as a charismatic, fun loving guy who was not your typical preacher. He had a passion for teaching the youth and he touched many lives by being just one of the regular guys. Chuck enjoyed woodworking, cooking and watching college football, especially the Florida Gators. He was a big history buff and enjoyed learning about the Civil War and World War II.

Chuck is survived by his 3 children: Charlene Segree of Yankton, Erika Tripp of Suwon, Korea and Stephen Pinkerton of Ft. Bragg, NC; parents, Rev. Charles Sr. and Carma Pinkerton of Dothan, AL; ex-wife, Melanie Pinkerton of Yankton; 4 grandchildren: Alexis Segree of St. George Island, FL, Jose and David Swager of Milton, FL and Aydan McDaniel of Yankton; brother, Christopher (Helga) Pinkerton of Brunswick, GA; sister, Christina (Guillermo) Vanagas of South Florida; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Chuck touched everyone he met and he strived to help you see that Jesus could be the light of your life. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
