Mabel Pauline Mulford
Mabel Pauline Mulford, age 98, of Crofton, Nebraska, died Friday, January 23, 2009, at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton, South Dakota.
A Graveside Service will be at 1:00 PM, on Tuesday, January 27, 2009, at the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Yankton with Reverend Dani Jo Ninke-Greaver officiating. Visitation is from 3:00 to 8:00 PM, on Monday, at the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home in Yankton with family present from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
Mabel was born January 12, 1911, to Art and Adda (O'Brien) Hill in Bloomfield, Nebraska. She grew up in the Bloomfield and Llindy area, where she attended rural schools. She married Samuel Mulford on April 17, 1929, in Niobrara, Nebraska. They lived and farmed in rural Niobrara until they moved to Llindy where Mabel worked for Addison Exchange as a telephone operator. After a few years they moved back to the Niobrara area where they continued to farm. Samuel died in November of 1977. She lived in the Niobrara area for most of her life, until she moved to Crofton, where she lived up until her death. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, canning, gardening, and raising hogs.
She is survived by her special friend, Ted Michaels of Crofton; three children, Charles Mulford of Niobrara, Nebraska, Dallas (Sue) Mulford of Ogallala, Nebraska, and Bonnie (Paul) Cash of Niobrara; five grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Samuel; three children, Dennis Mulford, Dixie Rathmann, and Eugene Mulford; five brothers, Ben, Howard, Jack, Walter, and Wilford Hill; one sister, Ruby Olson; one half-sister, Ruth O'Brien Hill; one grandchild, Samuel Mulford.
