Elvira Mary Kathol
Elvira Mary Kathol, age 94, of Hartington, Nebraska, died on Sunday, November 16, 2008 at the Avera Sister James Care Center in Yankton, SD.
Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, November 22, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Family (Sts. Peter & Paul) Catholic Church in Bow Valley with the Rev. Michael Keating and Rev. Quentin Kathol officiating.
Burial will be in the Sts. Peter & Paul Cemetery, Bow Valley.
Visitation will be on Friday from 3-8:00 p.m. with a rosary at 4:00 p.m. and a Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m., all at the Church in Bow Valley. Pallbearers will be Luke Kathol, Emily Kathol, Michael Kathol Brian DeBlauw, Chelsy Kathol and Jennifer Suing.
Honorary Pallbearers will be her grandchildren and members of the Bow Valley Rosary Club.
Elvira was born on January 13, 1914 at Bow Valley, NE to Anton and Mary (Schnuttgen) Wortmann. She attended Bunker Hill School District 72 southeast of Bow Valley and lived in the Bow Valley area all of her life. She married Frank A. Kathol on May 12, 1936 in Bow Valley. She had been a resident of Avera Sister James Care Center since January of 2008.
Elvira was a member of the Holy Family (Sts Peter and Paul) Catholic Church in Bow Valley, the Altar Society, Christian Mothers, and the Bow Valley Rosary Club. She had great faith in God and a deep love for her family. She loved to garden, raise flowers and crochet. She retained a great knowledge of people and events from the past. Her grandchildren were especially impressed with her zest for life.
Elvira is survived by 4 children and their spouses, Emma Lou and David DeBlauw of Rockford, Illinois, Leon and Marilyn Kathol of Yankton, Earl and LuAnn Kathol of Yankton, Alvin and Laurie Kathol of Bow Valley, a daughter in law, Mary Ann Kathol of Yankton, 27 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, a brother, Francis and Irene Wortmann of Hartington, 2 sisters, Theodora and Edgar Wuebben, of Wynot, and Josephine and John Olinger of Sioux Falls, SD.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Frank, on Dec. 11, 1987 at the age of 80, a son Mark, a sister, Eleanor Pinkelman, 3 brothers, August, Rudolph, and Monsignor Edgar Wortmann.
