Michael "Mikey" Harvey Davis
Michael "Mikey" Harvey Davis, age 55, of Yankton, South Dakota, died Tuesday, December 2, 2008, at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton.
Funeral services are 2:00 PM on Friday, December 5, 2008, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Yankton with Reverend David Gunderson officiating. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Yankton. Visitation is from 3:00 to 8:00 PM, on Thursday, at the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home in Yankton with a prayer service and video tribute at 7:00 PM. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the funeral at the church.
Pallbearers are Jim Anderson, Jerry Radack, Jason Beaudette, Jeff Hays, Matt Luikens and Hadley Gilbertson.
Mike was born on July 6, 1953, in Yankton, South Dakota, to Harvey Alvin and Mary (Hayes) Davis. He grew up in Yankton and graduated from Yankton High School in 1971. After high school at age 17, he started working for the Human Services Center in Yankton. For 38 years he continued to work there and was currently in the drug and alcohol unit. His personal touch with his patients was unbelievable and had a remarkable way connecting to them. On May 10, 1980, Mike married Linda Luikens at St. John's Lutheran Church in Yankton. In 1986, he was blessed with his greatest joy in life, his daughter, Jennifer. Mike was a big sports fan. He enjoyed playing golf and watching football, especially the Vikings. He was an intimidating fast-pitch softball pitcher. He also played the trumpet and enjoyed the company of his pets. Mike was well known as a "roaster" of people retiring from the Human Services Center and always provided a farewell poem which he wrote.
Mike is survived by his wife, Linda Davis of Yankton; daughter, Jennifer Davis of Yankton; sister, Pat Davis of Minneapolis, MN; half-sister, Marilyn Owens of Leon, IA; nine nieces and nephews; and his two beloved pets, his dog, Lilly and cat, Tookie.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Twyla Ostrem.
